Look well at Telford's chain of locks; above it Observe the place where, from a royal fort, Vengeful invaders cowed a people, drove it Away to westward, never to be caught. Today, thanks to the inn which David bought And fitted to our needs, like hand to glove, it Renders the weary traveller sweet support, Mends loveless lives & bids dull care to 'shove it'; Staffed by a team competitors must covet, Haven of helpful service, rain or shine; One sees them daily striving to improve it, Taking their cue from mistress Caroline. Eros has built a cot to lodge a dove at, Let love's bright arrows link you to the Lovat.
September 2009 "How special to have a poem spontaneously written in the guest book. This means a great deal to us - that someone has taken the time to put their thoughts together with such fine eloquence. Thank you."
Forty years ago I was a student working in the Lovat Arms Hotel for the summer when it was owned by the Sabin family.
It is where I and all of the staff, who were a wonderful bunch of locals and students like myself from around the world, watched the men land on the moon. We all crammed into the little staff room at the back of the hotel next to the bar entrance and watched in awe on a black and white tv for hours on end until eventually they landed.
It was a memorable experience that will never leave me as will all the happy times that I had working in the hotel over three years.
There were some great locals working in the hotel also in the bar and the restaurant, real characters suppose now they have all passed on.
Anyway glad to see the hotel is going from strength to strength, just thought I would share this memory with you if you find any old photos from that period please let me know.
"We had a fabulous time - and glorious blue skies as well. Hotel was lovely, food was fantastic and room was excellent. All good value - we did not want to come home!!" ....................................................................................... Louise Sutherland
